The LAZ Council is in the process of reconstituting the various Committees of the Association. As you all know a large portion of the Association’s work is done through its committees. Kindly be informed that membership to the Committees that members signed up for after the 2014 AGM is still subsisting until after the 2016 AGM and that new members are still welcome. We have 16 (Sixteen) different committees that cover a wide spectrum of activities namely:
1. Administration of Justice Committee
2. Annual General Meeting Committee
3. Conveyancing Committee
4. HIV/AIDS Committee
5. House Committee
6. Human Rights Committee
7. In-House Counsel Committee
8. Intellectual Property & Business Law Committee
9. International Relations Committee
10. Investment, Finance and Modernisation Committee
11. Law Reform & Constitutional Affairs Committee
12. Legal Aid Committee
13. Litigation Committee
14. Remuneration Committee
15. Women’s Rights Committee
16. Junior Lawyers Committee
We need you to get involved to make the Association work well. If you need any clarifications as to what each committee does, please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat. Applications for consideration to the various LAZ Committees are open to all paid up members of the Association. Members are hereby advised to indicate which Committee(s) they wish to join and the preference should be communicated to the Secretariat by Monday, 27th July, 2015.

Be informed that we received correspondence from the Judiciary on Execution of Court Orders (see attached notice from Court for your attention)

Be informed that we received correspondence on suspicious transaction reporting guidelines from the Financial Intelligence Centre for your urgent attention.
Note that all LAZ members are hereby advised to submit their comments to the LAZ Secretariat by Friday, 17th July, 2015 (see attachment for more details).
Take Notice that as of MONDAY JUNE 22, 2015 the above Practitioner has yet again been suspended from practising law with immediate effect. By this notice, the said Practitioner is to continue not to appear in any Court of Law/Tribunal and should not file Court process of whatever nature until further notice from the Legal Practitioners Committee.
Since the firm under the name and style Nkana Chambers is a one man firm, it is further ordered that the said firm continues to be closed until further notice.
We have received constant complaints against Joseph Chilufya Banda a ZIALE student who has been purporting to represent various members of the public as a Legal Practitioner and impersonating one of our Members, a Mr. Moses Lupiya of National Prosecutions Authority.
Our records indicate that the said Joseph Chilufya Banda is not a qualified Legal Practitioner within the meaning of the Legal Practitioners Act.

This therefore serves to notify all concerned that the said Joseph Chilufya Banda is not a Legal Practitioner and has no valid Practising Certificate issued by this Committee as the Practising Certificate he may be brandishing under the name of Moses Lupiya and commissioned by one Austin James Mukwanga was wrongly issued to him.

The 2016 LAZ Law Conference and Annual General Meeting are scheduled to be held from 14th to 16th, April, 2016 in Livingstone.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) Committee is therefore calling for proposed themes and topics for the law conference.
All proposals must reach the LAZ Secretariat by close of day on Monday, 20th July, 2015 . You can deliver your proposals in person or by sending an email to,, or
Kindly title your email: ‘2016 LAZ Law Conference/AGM themes and Topics’.
