The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) strongly condemns the riotous behavior that was exhibited by UPND cadres at the Lusaka High Court premises in Lusaka on 15th December 2016 where they escorted their party leadership who had gone for court hearing. The destruction of public and private property and the resultant intimidation of the members of the judiciary, judiciary staff and members of the public is wholly unacceptable whether due to provocation or not.
LAZ has also received information to the effect that the UPND Cadres were provoked by the police and that the police used live ammunition on the cadres. LAZ is still making inquiries regarding this information but in the meantime, restates its position that the police must at all times conduct themselves fairly, professionally and within the confines of the law regardless of political affiliation or persuasion of the alleged or perceived law breakers.
